Centro Cultural de la Raza presents Raza Visions, a night of art, live music, food, drinks and presentations of interior design proposals for renovations to the building. With the 50th anniversary of Centro Cultural de la Raza approaching in 2021, Raza Visions is a fundraiser to help the Centro establish new collaborations with artists and to develop new approaches public engagement and historic preservation. The event also kicks off an online fundraiser of the same name to help bring these projects to fruition. One of the most exciting parts of this initiative is a collaboration with Design students from San Diego State University who are proposing interior designs which imagine renovations to the space, including a lounge, cafe, artist workshop spaces, store and mezzanine amongst other ideas. The designs will be exhibited in the Centro?s gallery an will be open to public input. Live acts include cumbia bands, La Diabla from Tijuana, Cumbia Machin, the Latin Jazz act Bill Caballero and solo artist, Fabio Alejo. The event will include an Artist Market featuring local up and coming visual artists selling prints, photographs and artisan goods. Also featured will be a video recording booth inviting the public to collectively share Centro history by telling stories of how their lives have been impacted by the space over the last 50 years.
