The Maritime Museum of San Diego and The Hausmann Quartet embark on their fourth season of Haydn Voyages: Music at the Maritime, a unique mix of music and education for those looking for a new cultural and creative experience. The Hausmann Quartet?s intimate performances transport audiences on unique musical voyages, flowing from classical to contemporary works in an idyllic setting, aboard the 1898 steam ferryboat Berkeley in downtown San Diego. Enjoy performances on the city?s only floating concert hall and immerse yourself in sounds of a string quartet and the San Diego Bay.
Each unique performance explores the evolution of the string quartet through both the lens of classical composer Joseph Haydn and themes varying from differing world views, humor, to the human condition. Refreshments are available on Berkeley?s upper deck bar starting at 3:30 PM. Performances include informative and entertaining commentary from musicologist Derek Katz.
This journey around the globe spans cultures, eras and political issues that are as alive today as they were in Haydn's 18th-century Europe. His "Emperor" Quartet is complemented by a haunting setting of an Armenian folk song by Mary Kouyoumdjian and Terry Riley's G Song (the work of an American master who draws on truly global influences) complete this international voyage, with Haydn as fearless leader.
Admission/Cost: $10 - $50
Location:
Maritime Museum of San Diego
1492 N. Harbor Drive
San Diego, CA 92101
Sunday, March 31 - 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
