The San Diego Children?s Discovery Museum is excited to present the Roots Series as part of the Museum?s mission to celebrate and educate children and families about world cultures. Roots programs highlight the diverse cultural traditions of a community represented in San Diego County.
This free program features cultural performances, crafts, costumes, and other activities to showcase the culture?s rich art and history. Entertainment ? often by children performers ? can include storytelling, music, dance or puppetry. During the program month, the Global Village and Marketplace exhibit is transformed to reflect the culture, along with books and costumes. Additionally, craft and storytime will carry the theme of the celebrated culture with a different book and craft each week of that month.
Roots events are held on the third Saturday of alternating months from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The February 16th event will feature a performance by the Odissi Dance Acadamy
This 2-hour event will include:
• Learning about Odissi, one of the eight recognized classical dance forms of India
• Participating in traditional dance movements and hand gestures with Center for World Music
• Dance performances by artist teacher Rudra Prasad Swain, Laboni Patnaik, and student performers
• Yoga with Yoga Adventures for Kids
• Dressing up and embarking on an interactive storytelling adventure with Literature Comes to Life
