Join Ambassador Diana Lady Dougan, Peabody Award winning filmmaker, and Executive Producer of "The Judge," for a special screening on February 6 at UCSD's Robinson Auditorium.
"The Judge" is a timely and captivating film about Kholoud Al-Faqih, the first woman to become a Shari?a Law judge in the Middle East. The film engages and surprises both Muslims and non-Muslims as it takes audiences on Kholoud?s journey of controversy, perseverance and stunning courage.
With unprecedented access to Shari?a court in session, the film holds nothing back as it captures the heated and deeply rooted opposition among women as well as men in this break from centuries old culture and tradition.
Judge Kholoud has already become an inspiring role model far beyond her country of Palestine. Her appointment was not only historic, but it embodies so many aspects of inter-faith and cross-cultural perceptions and misconceptions about women and the law far beyond Islam.
There will be a thought-provoking panel discussion and reception following the screening. This event is free and open to the public.
