Folk Dance of Colombia Workshop

An interactive workshop in Colombian folk dance with Elvira Bustamante Fuentes from Barranquilla, Colombia, currently based in NYC. With over 20 years of experience and a Master's in Artistic and Technical Education in Dance and Music and Education, Elvira engages groups of all ages to share rhythms of the traditional music of the north coast of Colombia. Accompanying this workshop is Ricky Matute, Latin Grammy-award winning percussionist and composer from Barranquilla, Colombia, based in Los Angeles. Participants will explore skills in body expression and sense of rhythm, and learn about the diversity of rhythms, folklore and culture in dance. This session will study the rhythms of cumbia, bullerengue and mapalé. Join this exciting workshop at 1pm, followed by an after party at 3pm! All at WorldBeat Cultural Center.
