Philippine Cultural Arts Festival
Philippine Cultural Arts Festival The SAMAHAN Filipino American Performance Arts & Education Center will hold its 34th Philippine Cultural Arts Festival on August 10 to 11, 2019, in Balboa Park, at the corner of Park Boulevard and Presidents Way. Annually, SAMAHAN Performing Arts hosts the festival from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both days. Admission is FREE. The two-day festival offers continuous entertainment of music and dances. The event showcases performances of traditional Filipino folk dances from different regions of the Philippines, folk songs, Rondalla, Angklung (bamboo percussion instrument), Kulintang (gong) music of Southern Philippines and Filipino Martial Arts. Local budding artists will also be performing.

Guest Artists on Saturday - Ruby Ibarra, Jocelyn Enriquez and One Vo1ce Sunday Special - Manila Disco Fever with The Union Band

Added attraction to the Festival are presentations by Filipino American recording artists and veteran performers from the Philippines. On Saturday special numbers will be performed by Rap artist, Ruby Ibarra, dance-pop singer, Jocelyn Enriquez and R&B girl group, One Vo1ce. On Sunday, The Union Band will do a repeat performance of their well-received Manila Disco Fever show at the Old Globe Theater in Balboa Park last May, featuring the '70's Manila sound. The Union is composed of Jet Montelibano, Jessica Casas, Fulton Montoya and Eva Caparas. Be ready to dance to disco music Philippine style!!!!

Balboa Park is a major hub for culture and tourism in San Diego, attracting thousands of visitors each weekend with peaks during the summer season. This is a great opportunity for local artists to present their talents and businesses to sell their goods in a prime location of Balboa Park. Event vendors are invited to rent booths or spaces for canopies to sell their uniquely designed T-shirts, costume jewelry, various products and services. Delicious, popular Filipino food prepared at local Filipino restaurants, including adobo, lumpia, pancit and special Halo-Halo will be sold from food booths.

The Philippine Cultural Arts Festival and cultural/educational programs of SAMAHAN are funded in part with grants from the CA Arts Council, the County of San Diego Community Enhancement Program, The San Diego Foundation - Dr. Lolita Dinoso Carter Endowment, Davita as Corporate Sponsor and Luib Health Center, Community Sponsor and individual contributions.
