6:00 PM National Poetry Month: Cultures Connect Poetry & Art Series 2019 presents Cultures Connect, a reading by renowned authors Kimberly Dark, Malachi Black, Jennifer Minniti-Shippey, Mario DeMatteo, minerva, Shadab Zeest Hashmi, and Gerardo Navarro, a.k.a. Nemónico. People's Choice open mic follows. Hosted by Michael Klam and Jim Moreno. DJ Gill Sotu will provide music and sound throughout the show. Cultures Connect is a collaboration between San Diego Writers, Ink; SDAI; P&A; and Jim Moreno. This interactive arts and culture experience will include beverages, snacks and time to mingle.

FCN is also one of the most significant events AB Samahan puts on as a gift to the community. 7:00 PM Film: Louise By The Shore On the last day of summer, elderly Louise realizes that the last train has departed without her, and she finds herself alone in a small seaside resort town. The weather quickly turns for the worse, and the fragile and coquettish woman is not prepared to make it through the winter. She takes her abandonment as a challenge, and she is determined to survive by confronting the elements, as well as her memories, which have found the perfect occasion to join in the adventure.

This film is a part of the Tournées French Film Festival at MiraCosta College.

7:00 PM Dance: Live Arts Fest A celebration of multidisciplinary arts with a focus on dance, Live Arts Fest consists of nine nights of dance spread out over the course of 12 days. Curated by San Diego Dance Theater's Artistic Director Jean Isaacs, past fests have showcased modern to post-modern dance numbers choreographed by local and international artists, while also giving an opportunity to newer faces. 8:00 PM Talk: Creating Global Citizens Through Encounters with Asia The ASIANetwork Conference keynote address is given by Richard Madsen, PhD, distinguished professor of sociology at the University of California, San Diego. He was co-director of a Ford Foun­dation project to help revive the academic discipline of sociology in China. He also served as provost of Eleanor Roosevelt College, the mission of which is to provide a liberal education that will produce global citizens.

The 2019 ASIANetwork Conference theme focuses on integrating, enhancing, and engaging Asia-related topics in undergraduate curricula. What are the various methods-coursework, study abroad, community engagement, research, internships, etc.-that have been used to enhance knowledge and understanding of Asia in different disciplinary contexts? What kinds of interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches have been used to enhance Asia-related themes and Asian Studies?
