5:00 PM Film: Singing Our Way To Freedom A multilayered portrait of San Diego musician, composer and community activist, Ramon "Chunky" Sanchez. The film chronicles Chunky's remarkable life events from his humble beginnings as a farm worker in Blythe, California, to receiving the National Heritage Fellowship at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, in 2013. Despite the major social transformations that occurred in San Diego during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and 70s, much of that history is scarcely known today, particularly the contributions made by young Chicanos. A portrait of one charismatic musician and activist allows us to revisit this pivotal era of American history and to provoke dialogue about the many hurdles that had to be overcome to gain equal rights for Latinos in today's society. Directed by Paul Espinosa.

Bill and Madeline Livingston, who lost their son in the terrorist attack, travel to Scotland to come to terms with their loss.

Curated by San Diego Dance Theater's Artistic Director Jean Isaacs, past fests have showcased modern to post-modern dance numbers choreographed by local and international artists, while also giving an opportunity to newer faces. Jie Ma has dedicated herself to celebrating the rich musical legacy of classical pipa and ruan performance. At the same time—as performer, composer, and producer—she has taken her music into entirely new directions. Her commitment to technical precision, her love of soulful and rich expression, her unique sound, her endless intellectual/musical curiosity, and her love of creativity have endeared her to diverse audiences around the world. This program will be an intimate concert, providing the audience with the opportunity to interact with the artist.

The Havana Cuba All-Stars are some of Cuba's greatest musicians.
