10:00 AM 10th Annual International Jazz Day International recording artist and multi-lingual vocalist, Allison Adams Tucker celebrates the 10th Annual International Jazz Day & Jazz Appreciation Month broadcasting live from San Diego, California with performances by jazz artists in 10 cities around the world.

Starting in 2012, UNESCO with legendary jazz pianist Herbie Hancock designated April 30th as the International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe, promoting peace, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity; eradicating discrimination; promoting freedom of expression; fostering gender equality; and reinforcing the role of youth in enacting social change.

12:00 PM iCafé – Your Passport to Culture! Global Education, in partnership with Extension, Outreach and Recreation at UC San Diego, invites you to iCafé, International Friday Café’s virtual café, teams up with campus partners to explore the world as global citizens and frequent "virtual" flyers!

Play Travel Trivia hosted by Extension (winner gets a prize!) and enjoy our Global Playground hosted by Recreation. Receive a free apron by sharing a recipe in the Cook Club! This fun global exploration happens at 12:00 PM on Fridays (Pacific Time).

12:00 PM Talk: Jillian Hernandez UCSD: University of California San Diego: Jillian Hernandez is a scholar, curator, and community arts educator. Her areas of expertise include contemporary art and visual culture, girlhood, and Black and Latinx gender and sexual politics. Her work is inspired by Women on the Rise!, a project she founded in Miami, Florida in 2004 that engaged thousands of Black and Latina girls in critical dialogues about identity through feminist art. She is a faculty member in the Center for Gender, Sexualities, and Women's Studies Research at the University of Florida. Her book, Aesthetics of Excess: the Art and Politics of Black and Latina Embodiment, was recently published by Duke University Press.
