We will read stories, sing in both languages, dance, and play. 10:30 AM Mandarin Storytime Join the Mission Valley Library for a special toddler storytime in Mandarin Chinese from 10:30-11:00, followed by open play time from 11:00-11:30. Our storytime teacher, Claire, is a full-time mom from Taiwan, who has worked as a preschool teacher at Bright Horizons as well as a special education teacher. Targeted to ages 3 and under, this storytime is suitable for both Mandarin and non-Mandarin speakers alike. No registration required.

5:00 PM New Discoveries In The American Paleolithic Conference The Anza Borrego Foundation, California State Parks and their sponsors announce a conference on "New Discoveries in the American Paleolithic: The Pre-16,000BP Archaeological Record" on Thursday, Jan. 10 through Saturday, Jan. 12.

The conference will present diverse sites and types of evidence from throughout the Americas that demonstrate the presence of a wide-spread human occupation much earlier than was previously recognized. The conference will focus on new sites and discoveries older than 16,000 BP as well as innovative methodological advances in dating.

Thursday evening at 5 p.m., there will be a meet and greet and poster session at the UCI Research Center. Oral presentations and discussions will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center.

6:15 PM Talk: Dr. Melila Hellner-Eshed We invite you to listen, learn and explore together at our upcoming Scholar-in-Residence weekend with world-renowned theologian and pioneer of Jewish mystical studies, Dr. Melila Hellner-Eshed.

Melila Hellner-Eshed, Ph.D., is a research fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute. She is a professor of Jewish mysticism and Zohar in the department of Jewish Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She received her degree from Hebrew University under the tutelage of Professor Yehuda Liebes.

For the past two decades, Melila has been a central figure in the Israeli renaissance of study of Jewish texts by Israeli adults of all paths of life in various frameworks. She initiated and directs the Rabbinic Students Seminar, a program for rabbinic students from all denominations spending a year in Israel. She is also the co-director of the Institute's Beit Midrash program. She has been teaching and working with Jewish communities in North America, Europe and the former Soviet Union for many years.

Her book, "And a River Flows from Eden" - On the Language of Mystical Experience in the Zohar," was published by Stanford University Press in 2009.

Melila is on the faculty of the Institute of Jewish Spirituality and is active in the 'Sulha' - a reconciliation project that brings together Israelis and Palestinians.
