Originally based in Nashville, Marujah knew they'd made a mark in this city when the band took home a San Diego Music Award for Best World Music Album twice in four years. Their sound is a cultural melting pot of street music and political commentary, sung in English and Spanish. Lead singer and songwriter Comandante Kalavera's writing style is heavily influenced by Latin American existential poetry.
