Welcome to SDSU’s World Music Concert Series. A specially curated series of concerts featuring world renowned musicians who represent music cultures from around the globe. This series has been designed in conjunction with Music 345: Music Cultures of the World, but is open to all guests.
Javanese gamelan is an ensemble of metallophones, gongs, drums, flutes, and stringed instruments that originated in the courts of Central Java, Indonesia. It is a complex and sophisticated musical tradition that has been passed down for centuries.
Gamelan music is characterized by its rich and layered sound, its use of complex rhythmic patterns, and its ability to evoke a wide range of emotions. It is often used for ceremonies, rituals, and performances, and it is an important part of Javanese culture.
