Ben Jaber and Pete Polansky perform at Mingei.

Benjamin Jaber is a talented multiinstrumentalist who has studied Irish traditional music since his early teens, after being introduced to recordings of the great master Uilleann pipers. He is completely self-taught on the Uilleann pipes (Irish “elbow” bagpipes), wooden flute, and tin whistle, and has made a name for himself as a sought-after performer of traditional Irish music. Ben performed and taught at the Lark In The Morning Camp, the North Texas Irish Festival, the Austin Celtic Festival, the EnnisTradFest, the Féile Parkfield in historic Parkfield, California, and the Willie Clancy Summer School in Milltown Malbay, Co. Clare.

In his ‘normal’ life, Ben is also an accomplished and successful French horn player, and he has been principal horn of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra since 2008. He remains active in the recording studios of Los Angeles, having many film and TV projects to his credit.

Pete Polansky teaches, records, and performs on guitar, banjo, violin, and bodhran regularly in San Diego and beyond. A Pennsylvania native, Pete studied performance at Manhattan School of Music and Berklee College of Music. He began playing Irish traditional music as a young adult.
Concerts on the Commons is a summer music series at Mingei International Museum, Balboa Park, in partnership with the Center for World Music and its teaching artists.
