34th Annual San Diego International Jewish Film Festival Kickoff: The Way to Happiness. It’s 1987, Brussels. Welcome to the New Manhattan deli, adorned with technicolor movie memorabilia, where patrons eat New York style pastrami and play movie trivia with the delightful MC and owner, Saul Birnbaum. Saul and an exiled Chilean filmmaker are working on a screenplay they hope will reach the big screen. When Saul falls for a lovely projectionist at the local cinematheque, romance and other complications ensue. This is an upbeat film about loving the movies and facing the past in order to make a brighter future.
