Sam Hinton Folk Heritage Festival

Old Poway Park , 14134 Midland RD , Poway

Music/Dance Download To My Calendar

The annual Sam Hinton Folk Heritage Festival celebrates the memory of Sam Hinton, the grandfather of folk music in San Diego County. Admission is free and all are welcome. There will be music on the gazebo, storytelling in the Porter House, and jam sessions of various flavors around the park. The Poway-Midland Railroad will be offering rides around the park for a nominal fee (which supports the nonprofit organization that runs and maintains the trains).

Music on the bandstand from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM!

10:00 AM:  Greg Gross & Tim Woods. Specializing in classic songs that will have you singing along, we’ve brought Greg back from his new East Coast mountain home especially for this engagement.

11:00 AM: JT Moring and Dave Ombrello. You’re probably familiar with JT from his long association with Folk Heritage; make sure you check out Dave and his green 5-string viola! We know they’ve been playing a lot of Irish-inspired tunes, but also have a repertoire of folk and originals in the Americana vein, so we’re not sure exactly what to expect, except we’re pretty sure it will be fun!
noon Special Guest! Guaranteed not to disappoint.

1:00 PM Sharon Katz and the Peace Train. The unstoppable beat and amazing harmonies of South African music and dance.

2:00 PM Dirty Cello. From the Bay Area, one of our concert favorites, playing classical to down home blues to virtuosic stompin’ bluegrass, their music will get your heart thumping and your toes tapping.

3:00 PM Gordie Tentrees. Canadian road poet and roots music troubadour. His only San Diego appearance on his latest US tour!

Family Dance in Templars Hall from 1 – 3 pm presented by San Diego Contra Dance. With Audrey (Knuth) Jaber on fiddle, Martha Wild on keyboards, Marci Phelan on accordian, and Frannie Marr will be the caller.
