This talk will explore the remarkable life and art of one of the most accomplished artists of the seventeenth century. Daughter of the baroque painter, Orazio Gentileschi, Artemisia (1593-c.1656) overcame grievous personal challenges to become an international success, with her paintings in high demand in the royal courts of Europe. With few opportunities for women to train artistically or work professionally in her day, Gentileschi forged a successful career by asserting a powerful and deeply personal style, matched by a self-assured personality. Learn about her life, her skill, and the boldly transgressive nature of her paintings through an exploration of some of her most iconic works.
