Lightning (1952. 90 minutes): Director Mikio Naruse’s eloquent, slow-burn rebellion against social conventions is considered his masterpiece. Hideko Takamine portrays a perky bus conductor frustrated with the tensions in her squabbling family who breaks free to make a go of it on her own. In Japanese with English subtitles.
