Join us for a night of new and contemporary music for Balinese gamelan on May 16th, at 8pm in the Camino Hall, Shiley Theater.
About this event:
Under the direction of Dr. Meghan Hynson and Hirotaka Inuzuka, Gamelan "Gunung Mas" is USD's very own gamelan ensemble. A gamelan is an orchestra of knobbed pots, gongs, xylophone-like instruments, and drums, which can be found on various islands throughout Indonesia. The USD gamelan is from Bali, Indonesia and is a gamelan angklung, which is traditionally used for funerary parades and other rites of passage. In the spring 2022 concert, students in the USD gamelan will play both new and traditional music and accompany several illustrious Balinese dancers.
