Art Talk: Gabriel Metsu - Life, Work & Influences

Gabriel Metsu is one of the most celebrated Dutch painters of the 18th and 19th centuries. From his early days in Leiden until his death in Amsterdam at the height of his career, Metsu painted a remarkable range of history paintings, portraits, still lifes, but above all, exquisite genre paintings like the Timken's Portrait of a Girl Receiving a Letter. This docent-led talk will explore the life and work of this remarkable artist who was one of the leading genre painters of his time. This lecture will be held online via Zoom.
