The Worldview Project in partnership with USD’s Kroc School of Peace Studies, and the San Diego United Nations Association is excited to present Kenro Oshidari and Kirsten Mandala who will discuss their experiences in working with international humanitarian organizations as well as work in meeting the challenges of climate change. They will discuss how they entered their careers and will offer insider’s perspectives on working internationally. They will also give some advice as to how students and people who are looking for career entry in the fields of international assistance. Kenro Oshidari will be joining us live from Tokyo and Kirsten Mandala will be joining us from Timor-Leste.



Kenro Oshidari is the former Regional Director for Asia for the UN’s World Food Programme. WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020. He has led operations to bring life-saving food to areas of the world that have been hit by either natural disaster or humanitarian crises caused by war or violent conflicts. He has led relief efforts in Sudan, Cambodia, Bosnia, Kosovo and many more areas. Since retiring he has kept very active in teaching and has a particular interest in helping students enter into careers in the field of international assistance.

Kirsten Mandala currently manages a portfolio of disaster risk reduction and climate change programming for Mercy Corps in Timor-Leste, building the resilience of vulnerable communities to ecological hazards and the adverse impacts of climate change in both rural and urban settings. Kirsten has worked with Mercy Corps since 2015. Before joining the team in Timor-Leste, she provided support to Mercy Corps' corporate and foundation-funded programs in India, Nepal, China, Mongolia, Myanmar, Indonesia and Timor. Prior to Mercy Corps, Kirsten worked on peacebuilding programs with civil society organizations in Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and New York. Kirsten holds a BA in Political Science, a Master of Public Administration focused on Global Leadership and Management, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science focused on Global Energy and Climate.
