The San Diego Italian Film Festival will screen A Soul Journey
For one magical week every summer in the Italian hillside town of Porretta, in Tuscany, audiences from all over the world flock to the Soul Music Festival, the foremost showcase of soul and R&B in Europe. A Soul Journey lets us share the musical marvels that have been emanating from Porretta for the last 25 years. Featuring such legends as Solomon Burke, Rufus Thomas, Sam Moore, Toni Green, Chick Rodgers, the Neville Brothers and brilliant old-timers like the down and dirty Sugar Pie Desanto and the lime-suited Harvey Scales, this foot-stomping celebration will make you want to book an immediate flight to Italy. The brainchild of Graziano Uliani, who as a teenager fell under the spell of Otis Redding, Porretta proves a haven for these amazing talents who bask in the good vibes and regale us with stories of the good—and bad—old days in the South, where their art was forged.
