Dearest Readers, Here are the exciting multicultural events happening in San Diego in the coming days!
On Saturday, a Celtic Celebration will be held at San Carlos Union Methodist. At the Caramel Valley Library on Tuesday, there will be a Dragon Boat Festival Celebration. On Wednesday, the House of Mexico will host a mixer at Mujeres Brew House. And rounding out next Wednesday, the month-long San Diego County Fair kicks off with resplendent American and international performances, exhibitions, and more. Next Friday, in honor of the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence, there will be a Kalayaan Pista Festival at Southwest Lodge in National City.
As for musical entertainment, on Friday at Belly Up there will be a tribute concert to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Saturday at Old Poway Park, the Sam Hinton Folk Heritage Festival will feature numerous folk groups and storytellers. Also on Saturday, at the JAI, Jihye Lee's Orchestra will perform. At WorldBeat Center the Temple of Roots Festival will feature a number of reggae groups (also Saturday). Trinidadian soca group Kes will be performing on Sunday at the House of Blues. Monday, Ohad Moskowitz will be performing traditional Jewish music at Congregation Beth Israel. Next Wednesday, the remarkable ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro will perform at Humphrey's. Next Friday, elite percussionist Monette Marino Keita will be at Belly Up.
There are also a couple of interesting discussions taking place in the upcoming days. Saturday, at the Knox Library, there will be a presentation on the political and military origins of Juneteenth. Sunday, the House of Denmark will hold its Lawn Program at the International Cottages. And on Tuesday, there will be an online lecture about US-Japan Relations hosted by the UCSD School of Global Policy and Strategy. The Digital Gym is showing a plethora of films for their "Bleak Week" series, including Kanal (tonight), Europa (Sunday and next Tuesday), A Generation (Sunday), and Ashes and Diamonds (Sunday). Next Friday, they will screen Winners as part of the every ongoing German Kino series with a repeat showing the following Sunday. Other films include tonight's showing at The Center of the documentary Crack. Saturday, the documentary Tianamen Mission will be shown at Knox Library.
Book and literature lovers will want to catch Madhushree Ghosh with Huda Al-Marashi as they discuss Safar: Finding Home, History, and Culture Through Punjabi Food in the American West on Thursday.
Food and Drink events include Sabor Del Barrio on Sunday in Barrio Logan and next Tuesday's Pasta Making Workshop at Colosseo Cucina Italiana. The Amoxtlis Printmaking exhibit opens at the California Center for the Arts and runs through mid-August.
Local ongoing theatrical performances include Kim's Convenience and The Hombres at the Old Globe both at the Old Globe, Purpose (ends this Sunday) at the La Jolla Playhouse and Room In The Castle at the MOXIE, which also has its final performance this Sunday.
