11:00 AM Exhibition [A] Portrait of People in Motion [A] Portrait of People in Motion is a community focused exhibition that honors migration stories of Americans, both new and long-established culminating in a new installation at New Americans Museum (NAM). Over the course the yearlong residency NAM Artist-in-Residence Kerianne Quick and NAM invited the residents of San Diego to share meaningful objects related to their story. The resulting exhibition; paints a portrait of our city through objects brought on - or left behind during - an international or domestic migration journey. Quick utilized digital photography, 3D scanning, and 3D printing technology to digitally record and re-create a translucent version of these items of deep significance. These re-creations will be on display along with audio recordings of each individual participant's story.

The exhibition tells stories through four themes:

Objects Carried documents objects brought on a migration journey and the first-hand story of the person who carried it.

Objects Remembered documents the stories of the things left behind.

Objects of History documents objects carried on a migration journey by a relative, and the second or third-hand stories of ancestors who experienced a migration journey.

Future Objects answers the question "If you had to leave right now, what would you take on your way out the door?"

Kerianne Quick is an internationally recognized artist and crafts person, and Assistant Professor of Art at San Diego State University.

5:30 PM Film: Tribal Justice Join us at San Diego Law Library for a special screening of the award winning documentary "Tribal Justice" with special guest Hon. Claudette White, Chief Judge, Quechan Tribal Court, who is featured in the film.

An appetizer and beverage reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a screening of the film from 6:00 to 7:30, and then a short question and answer session with Judge White.

About the film: Two Native American tribal court judges in California strive to reduce incarceration rates and heal their people by restoring rather than punishing offenders. Abby is a fierce, lean elder who has dedicated her life to humane justice. Claudette represents a new generation of Native American lawyers who are revisioning justice. The film follows cases in and out of their courts. Taos Proctor is facing life in prison when we meet him in Abby's court. We follow his story over two years as Abby and her staff help him rebuild his life. A thousand miles south, Claudette reunites a nine-year-old boy with his family. Meanwhile her teenage nephew is at risk of entering the school to prison pipeline.

7:30 PM Linda Blair Lectures on Jan Van Eyck Athenaeum Music & Arts Library welcomes back art historian Linda Blair with a new lecture series, Dreams and Enchantment: Jan van Eyck.

The three-part Thursday evening lecture series is designed to transport us to an otherworldly realm of noble knights and dreaming ladies, caparisoned steeds, and fairy-tale castle--all our reveries of the Arthurian knightly dream--in short, to 15th century Burgundy and the last glow of late medieval art.

November 7: Van Eyck as Influencer
How could Jan van Eyck possibly relate to Leonardo? The insights and inventions that made his genius possible were born not in Renaissance Italy, but far away, beyond the Alps in Northern Europe, in small, patrician Bruges, center of the dukes of Burgundy and their court painter, Jan van Eyck. We will plumb Van Eyck's discoveries to look afresh at Leonardo's art.

November 14: Burgundy, Chivalrous Ideals, and Van Eyck's Paintings
Burgundy, a tiny sliver of land, politically powerless but made persuasive as one of the most romantic, poetic, and refined of all the European courts, was so elegant it was slavishly emulated across Europe. It elevated the ideals of knightly cultur--art, architecture, costuming, pageantry, tournaments, courtly ritual--captured in Van Eyck's luminous paintings.
