12:00 PM Exhibition: Four Treasures Of The Chinese Study The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum will showcase a collection of artifacts and art pieces representing the Chinese "Four Treasures," which are: ink stick, ink stone, writing brush, and paper. These treasures are used in the study of Chinese calligraphy and writing.

Pieces and personal effects from over 20 local artists will be on display.

1:00 PM Without Walls Festival: The Quiet Volume From the United Kingdom, Ant Hampton and Tim Etchells present a "contemplative, self-generated performance for two audience members sitting side by side." They take cues from words both written and whispered, and find themselves "burrowing an unlikely path through a pile of books." Performances run every 15 minutes.

2:00 PM Lawn Program: House of Austria In the increasingly shrinking world, mutual understanding among cultures is paramount. For that reason the House of Austria endorsed Julian to establish a partnership of cultural exchange with the quaint mountain town of Heiligenblut, located in the Austrian Alps. The members of the House of Austria made it their mission to continue to promote the friendship between the peoples of the two towns.

During the Lawn Program and the Ethnic Food Fair at the Houses or Pacific Relations in Balboa Park, the members showcase their specialties of Austrian fare. Home-made pastries and Sachertorte are especially popular.

2:00 PM Stage: Pirates of Penzance Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera about a duty-bound pirate coming of age, the Pirates of Penzance features the return of San Diego Opera favorite bass-baritone Greer Grimsley as the Pirate King. He will be joined by his real-life wife, the mezzo-soprano Luretta Bybee, in her company debut as Ruth. The two of them will be joined by their real-life daughter, soprano Emma Grimsley, also in her company debut, as Mabel. Returning bass-baritone Patrick Carfizzi, last seen as Henry Kissinger in 2014's Nixon in China, returns as Major-General Stanley. Stage Director Seán Curran returns to stage the production and conductor Evan Rogister makes his company debut leading the orchestra. The score will be sung in English with English text projected above the stage.

4:00 PM Without Walls Festival: Oslo La Jolla Playhouse presents Max Robert Daily's piece about Oslo's Sardine Bar. The proprietor was shipwrecked years earlier, "when his Danish-flagged freighter, the crew, the Radio Free band, and the finest cargo of sardines were all presumed lost." If enough people come to dine, he may be able to get a life raft.

5:00 PM Odissi Dance School Student Recital Join us for the Monthly Dance Recital of the Center for World Music's Odissi Dance School.

Each month the school hosts a performance in which students present dance compositions that they have mastered under the instruction of our master teacher from India, Sri Rudraprasad Swain of the Orissa Dance Academy.

This month's performance features dancers Maya Janaswamy, Sejal Janaswamy, Shweta Shetty, and Madhavi Kutty.

If you would like to learn about Odissi and meet the students and teachers of our school, this is a great opportunity. The event is free and open to the public.
