3:00 PM Kumeyaay Garden Dedication Ceremony The Office of the Tribal Liaison, together with the USD campus, celebrates California Native American Day with the dedication of the university's Kumeyaay Garden, a space that honors indigenous plants and the Kumeyaay people's connection to this land.

The event will include bird singing, storytelling, ethnobotany tours, Kumeyaay cultural activities, and an art exhibition.

5:30 PM Japanese Autumn Equinox Ceremony Nourish your soul and uplift your spirits during this healing, rejuvenating ceremony and celebration. Evening will include a walking meditation in the gorgeous Japanese Friendship Garden, a healing guided visualization, inspiring music, and a heart-opening ceremony of gratitude honoring the beauty and abundance of Autumn.

Register online by September 8 for $20, and by September 21 for $25. Purchase tickets at the door for $30.

The ceremony will be held at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. Please plan to arrive early by 5:30 p.m. to give yourself time to find parking and walk down to the Inamori Pavilion in the Lower Garden.

You will receive an email with all relevant logistical details about the ceremony a few days before the event date.

6:00 PM South Sudan: Crisis and Conflict in the World's Newest Country The Republic of South Sudan achieved its independence from Sudan in 2011 following over 30 years of civil war. After a brief period of peace and prosperity, South Sudan slipped back into war in 2013, forcing more than 900,000 people to seek refuge in neighboring countries and leaving another 1.7 million people internally displaced. South Sudanese documentary filmmaker Alex Taban will discuss the country's struggle for freedom, the promise of independence and the ongoing challenges of governance.

"Dear John" celebrates the artistry of Elton John. Through the medium of dance, "Taught" and "Psalms for the Children of Syria" present a new understanding of the world in which we now live. Principle Visionary Dance Theatre dancer James LaRose presents "Shimmy Sham," an upbeat tap number that will have you dancing in your seats. 8:00 PM Music: Los Amigos Invisibles Since their first album in 1995, Los Amigos Invisibles have developed a sound based on the "gozadera" - an irresistible fusion of Latin rhythms with fiery funk and lounge music. The band got their first break when David Byrne (Talking Heads) discovered one of their albums by chance in a Manhattan record shop. He immediately called the band up in their native Venezuela and soon after, signed them to his label: Luaka Bop. Byrne opened doors for the band across the globe and Los Amigos Invisibles soon became an international touring machine.
