Seventeen-year-old Vega Stern meets a seductive outcast and gets sucked into psychedelic, then hard drugs in 1970s Germany. It is the beginning of her psychedelic roller coaster ride through ecstatic highs to hitting rock bottom painfully severs the ties to her first love to escape her dangerous drug habit, and travels through Greece and Israel in search of great art and true meaning, not knowing that her drug use resulted in long lasting consequences. Private Universe is a kaleidoscope of vivid descriptions and unusual travel adventures, but it is primarily a story of survival and self-invention.

2:00 PM House of Finland Lawn Program The House of Finland showcases typical music, dance, costumes, arts and crafts, and ethnic foods highlighting the country's rich culture.

Our singing of folk songs from centuries ago is typically accompanied by the violin, the accordion and Finland's own national instrument - the kantele. This ancient string instrument, sounding somewhat similar to a lute, but constructed to be played on a table or on your lap, sounds the mournful, haunting melodies of the northern forests and lakes. Finnish youngsters are always part of the scene, showing off their own honoring of our traditions passed on from generation to generation. Come see them sing, dance and play music as it used to be in towns and villages back when. Perhaps you might hear a rendition of Jean Sibelius' Finlandia, famous the world over!

2:00 PM Stage: The Explorers Club Neil Benjamin's post-colonial comedy lambastes Victorian rectitude, varieties of male sexism, and the British love of Empire (one even claims he discovered the "East Pole"). How? By having a woman join the heretofore all-male Explorer's Club in 1879. She's Phyllida Spotte Hume (Jessica John, sharp and funny). Theintrepid adventuressdiscovered a Lost City (at the "worst place on earth") and earned the right to be a member. As proof, she brings Luigi, a native, painted blue. The premise intrigues, but the slight play hops from episode to episode without an engine driving it forward. Lamb's Players production, ably directed by Robert Smyth, gets every possible laugh from the piece. And the male actors (Francis Gercke, Ross Hellwig, John Rosen, Brian Mackey, Omri Schein, Paul Eggington, and Brian Salmon) catch a series of sliding glass tumblers with near-Olympian dexterity.Worth a try.
