In the spirit of Sankofa, let's reconnect our past, present and future with attitudes, behaviors and choices that are in the interest of Black wellness. This will be a gathering of creative and critical thinkers to begin a process of dreaming of the world as we'd like to realize it in the future so we can reverse-engineer and build it.

9:00 AM El Vallecito Cave Paintings Trek Journey with us to the eastern edge of Tecate to El Vallecito, the lone site in the state of Baja California recognized by INAH, Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History, thanks to a series of Kumeyaay cave paintings that date back some 3,000 years. Scattered along two kilometers of pine-lined trails, these figures provide a silent yet powerfully direct connection to the original residents of the California peninsula. We'll start with lunch at a classic roadside cabin diner in the town of La Rumorosa before continuing to explore El Vallecito and nearby Campo Alaska, the former summer home of the Baja California government. Built in 1916, it's now home to a small history museum with Kumeyaay artifacts. And, as the region is also famous for its baked goods, we'll finish up with a stop at a local panadería before returning to the San Ysidro border crossing. Tickets include roundtrip border transportation, guide, entrance to El Vallecito and Campo Alaska and lunch. Given the added distance, we'll be forgoing our usual bus transportation for a van with room for 11. The group meets on the U.S. side of the Pedwest border crossing at the Virginia Avenue Transit Center at 9:00 AM with an estimated return to the border at 7:00 PM.
