Barona Museum Concert
In honor of International Museum Day, the Barona Cultural Center & Museum is hosting the 2nd Annual Concert in the Park Fundraiser. Performers include Ricky Ruis, Milt Cyphert, Tracy Lee Nelson, and Barona Tribal Member Harold Hill and his band Medicine Rock. Event proceeds will go toward the Barona Museum's 20th Anniversary Creation Story Exhibition, which is set to open in January 2020. The Creation Story is an important part of the history of the Barona People and much of it was almost lost. Music: Lukas Ligeti's Notebook
Composer/percussionist Lukas Ligeti made his Fresh Sound debut performance in a house concert in 2011, playing solo marimba lumina, an instrument designed by the late Don Buchla. He recently relocated from NYC to Southern California to serve on the faculty of UC Irvine. His music is a kaleidoscopic mix of African, post-minimal, European classical and avant-jazz influences. Marimba virtuoso Ji Hye Jung also performs Ligeti's "Thinking Songs," pushing the instrument into new directions, and Ligeti's group Notebook performs works combining composition, improvisation and unexpected moments of sheer beauty.
Admission/Cost: $10 - $20

Italian Film: In Bici Senza Sella
The San Diego Italian Film Festival presents: In Bici Senza Sella (On a Bike Without Saddle)
The much yearned-for permanent job! A true rarity these days in Italy. Aspiring to this unattainable dream, a cast of seven young characters face the merciless everyday battle for their future by coming up with new, extreme forms of survival. Between fake suicides and genuine miracles, they re-enact the acrobatic, irreverent quest for economic stability. The desecrating self-portrait of a generation willing to do anything to finally cross the finish line… but in the end? Will they be happy? Or will they keep bustling about? A movie in six episodes of variable length (10-20 minutes). The main theme displays the unstable position of today's youth, told first hand by seven young and debuting directors - with the need to laugh and cry about it.
Admission/Cost: $12 General Admission; $8 Members, Students & Active Military
Location:
Museum of Photographic Arts
1649 El Prado
San Diego, CA 92101
