12:15 PM Yemen Policy Event The presentation offers an overview of the work carried out by the Yemeni National Dialogue Conference (2013-2014), and which proposed the creation of a federal state with more open inclusive political order to soothe decades of internal tensions, north (Huthi) and south (separatist movement). It offers a "law and/in society" perspective on earlier attempts to propose decentralized mechanisms of governance in contemporary Yemeni history.

7:00 PM Stage: Florencia en el Amazonas Famous opera diva Florencia Grimaldi returns home to the Amazon to perform and dreams of finding her long lost lover, a butterfly hunter who has disappeared into the jungle. As she and her fellow travelers board a steamboat and begin a magical journey down the river, the lines between fantasy and reality become enmeshed. Experiencing powerful elements of nature merged with the supernatural, Florencia experiences an awakening, sheds her chrysalis and her spirit transforms. Inspired by the magical realism writings of Gabriel García Márquez, Mexican composer Daniel Catán transports us to the mystical Amazon River with nature sounds and lush, romantic melodies reminiscent of Puccini and Debussy. SDO is proud to have been the first major opera house in the U.S. to present Catan's first opera, Rappacini's Daughter and welcomes this, the first-ever Spanish-language opera commissioned in the U.S.

7:00 PM Stage: American Mariachi The Old Globe presents American Mariachi, a world premiere play by José Cruz González, directed by James Vásquez, and staged in association with Denver Center for the Performing Arts Theatre Company.

Spending her days caring for her ailing mother, Lucha yearns to break her monotonous routine. Here's a wild idea: an all-girl mariachi band! But it's the 1970s, and girls can't be mariachis ... or can they?

As Lucha and her spunky cousin hunt for bandmates, dodge disapproving relatives, and bring Mom along for the ride, they wonder: will the band come together?

American Mariachi is a heartwarming comedy about family, progress and the freedom to dream, plus a wave of vibrant, infectious live music.
