7:00 PM Stage: Turandot Puccini's classic opera returns starring soprano Lise Lindstrom in the title role as well as the company debuts of tenor Carl Tanner as Calàf and mezzo-soprano Angel Joy Blue as Liù. "Turandot" is a tale of mystery, intrigue and ultimately the triumph of love set in Imperial China. These performances mark the anticipated return of Lindstrom in her signature title role as princess "Turandot," a role performed here in 2011 and on all of the world's leading stages. Also joining the cast in his company debut is bass Brian Kontes as Timur. Valerio Galli, recently named "Best Italian Conductor Under 40" by La Stampa newspaper, makes his company conducting debut for these performances. Director Keturah Stickann stages the drama. "Turandot" will be sung in Italian with English translations set above the stage.

7:00 PM Stage: Uncle Vanya The Old Globe stages Anton Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya," a Globe-commissioned world-premiere new translation by Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. This exhilarating revival pairs one of the greatest plays ever written with the world's most celebrated translators of Russian literature.

Vanya and his niece Sonya struggle to care for the estate owned by Vanya's brother-in-law, a wealthy and celebrated professor. When this local legend returns with a beautiful new wife and announces his plans to sell the estate, hidden passions explode and the lives of the entire family come undone.

Performed in an unusually intimate and conversational style, this staging of "Uncle Vanya" provides an up-close encounter with a classic of world drama.

7:30 PM Lecture: Bioarchaeology of the Lower Rio Verde, Oaxaca, Mexico Dr. Arion Mayes, Associate Professor of Biological Anthropology and a director of the Biological Anthropology Laboratory, will discuss findings from two sites located on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. Occupied from the Middle Formative to the Early Post-classic periods, Río Viejo is a 250-hectare site on the west bank of the Río Verde. It was an urban center and the political seat of a regional polity. Cerro de la Cruz is a small Late Formative site covering 1.5 hectares located in the floodplain. Suggestions that Cerro de la Cruz is an example of the territorial expansion of Monte Alban, as well as the evidence against this, have been offered. While distant influences are evident on the skeleton and dentition, it does not appear to be in the form of violent conquest, supporting the archaeological evidence.
