2:00 PM Stage: Cloud Tectonics New Village Arts stages "Cloud Tectonics," a play by José Rivera directed by Herbert Sigüenza.

"Cloud Tectonics" is an apocalyptic love story. When Aníbal de la Luna meets pregnant Celestina del Sol at a rainy bus stop in Los Angeles, he offers her shelter for the night. As the two get to know each other, they realize that time and love don't always behave quite how they should.

This modern masterpiece is a love story that transcends time and space, examining how elemental forces shape who we become.

This show is the first local professional production of Rivera's masterpiece in over 20 years, and is the first mainstage production of NVA's Teatro Pueblo Nuevo initiative.

3:00 PM Taste of Opera: Origins of Turandot Ever wonder where the story of the ice princess Turandot came from? Many point to an 18th century play by Carlo Gozzi, but it is, in fact, much older than that! Children's literature and folktale expert, Joseph Thomas (professor of literature at SDSU), will join Dr. Nic Reveles for an in-depth conversation about the story and its origins that is sure to delight audiences when the San Diego Opera explores The Origins of Turandot at the Neil Morgan Auditorium. Among other surprises, learn about Khutulun, the wrestler princess, and why she kept her suitors at bay. A member of SDO's Opera Exposed program will join us to sing excerpts from the Puccini score. Light refreshments will be served.
